Beaded Tape Measure
A Painted Lady, stitched with flair.
One of On A String’s most popular designs, this tutorial guides you through creating a beautifully beaded Decorated Tape Measure — a functional treasure for your beading stash or a heartfelt gift for a fellow maker.
Using a 2-inch round cabochon (like the iconic Painted Lady) as your centrepiece, you’ll learn how to transform an ordinary tape measure into a work of art. Techniques include gluing, even count peyote, netting, and fringing — all layered with your own colour choices and decorative beads.
This is a project for confident beaders who love detail and delight. The result? A tactile, sparkling tool that’s as joyful to use as it is to make.
✨ What You’ll Need:
- Delica beads (size 11)
- Seed beads (size 11/15)
- Small decorative beads
- 3mm rounds or crystals
- 2-inch flat-backed cabochon
- Tape measure
📄 What’s Included:
- 12-page PDF (digital download)
- Full-colour photographs
- Step-by-step instructions
- Template for creating your own design
Please note: This tutorial is not suitable for beginners. Familiarity with peyote and netting stitches is recommended.
