Chase the Rainbow: May's Keepsake Collection Is Here

There's something about a rainbow that never gets old.

It doesn't matter how many times you've worked with colour — the moment you line up red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet in a neat little arc, something clicks. It just works. And that's exactly why rainbows have been on my mind lately.

May's Keepsake Collection is our Rainbow edition, and it might be my favourite box yet.

What's inside the box?

This month's collection is built around one of the most satisfying colour sequences in beading. Inside the box you'll find everything you need to bring a rainbow project to life — carefully curated seed beads in a full spectrum of colours, plus the materials and instructions to make something genuinely beautiful.

The inspiration for this box was a piece I've been working on myself: a beaded trinket box with a rainbow arch on the lid, fluffy white cloud accents in raised seed beads, and a repeating chevron rainbow panel stitched around the sides. It's the kind of project that looks impressive but builds in a really satisfying rhythm once you're in it.

Why rainbows work so well in beadwork

Colour gradients are one of the most powerful tools in a beader's kit. Rainbows give you a ready-made gradient — a sequence that's been tested by physics and loved by humans for centuries. You don't have to guess whether the colours work together. They do. What you do get to play with is proportion, scale, and placement.

A rainbow arch reads completely differently depending on whether you stitch it in size 15 seed beads or size 6. Worked tight and small, it feels elegant. Scaled up with bold beads, it feels joyful and graphic. Both are right.

To go alongside this month's box, I've put together a free download — a rainbow colour planning guide to help you map out your own projects. Whether you're working from the Keepsake Collection materials or pulling from your own stash, this doc will walk you through colour sequencing, bead sizing, and how to adapt a rainbow palette to different stitch types.
